Citizen journalism is a form of public journalism where unprofessional people are involving in reporting the news. Blog is one of the examples of citizen journalism. It could be written, accessed, and commented by anybody. (See blogs in plain English to know more about how blog works.)

Because this form of communication is not interested in money, the news content is often un-mainstream. There are a lot of people who create funny blogs or discuss funny things on Youtube. These guys discuss light, daily issues on Youtube and they have become really famous on the internet; Kev Jumba, mychonny, nigahiga, what the buck, and community channel. They are ‘internet celebrities’.

There are also some negative sides of citizen journalism. One of them is the decrease of objectivity in the news. Professionals are supporting this notion and they believe that only professional journalists could understand and follow the journalism ethics.

Furthermore, citizen journalism gives us benefit to utter what we feel important to be told to the world. It is also a two way communication form because we can receive other people’s comments about our news. It is an advantage that today’s technology has given us and it will be very useful for our society if we could use it wisely to enhance our society’s knowledge.
